Orange County FTM meeting
5 – 9 p.m.
TOPIC: Please join OCFTM when it meets this month on 2/26. This meeting will feature a discussion about self-identification, disclosure, shame, and whether it is better to be out and proud, or to be stealth and low-key? What’s right for you? What’s right for us all? Are we men? Are we FTMs? Can we be both? Please join us for this stimulating conversation. This meeting is open to all.
Please take note that in March (3/25), OCFTM will welcome Ricky as a guest speaker and he will be taking us on a fascinating tour of BD/SM (bondage-discipline, Sadomasochism), safe sex & STDs, toys, kink, & …? This will be an adult themed meeting and will involve some very frank and explicit conversation about sexual practices and experience. (Personal disclosure or participation is not required, it’s fine to just listen & hang out). Please use your best judgment as to whether you feel this is a comfortable meeting for you to attend. Minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian or have pre-arranged consent for this one.
Coming soon: OCTC Annual Picnic in the Park in May, Date TBA. No OCFTM meeting that month due to event
In the near future, OCFTM will be discussing the therapeutic process for transmen and will hopefully have a panel of therapists to share different approaches and interpretations of the standards of care, and what has been found to be most helpful for the transition process. If you or someone you know is a licensed therapist, currently working with transmen, and would like to participate in the discussion/panel, please contact Pat: ocftm@yahoo.com
Please remember to also check out the other new TG groups in the OC! www.octcca.org (new group info to be posted very soon!)
OCFTM meets on the fourth Sunday of each month at 5:00pm. Meet & greet 5-5:30pm, meeting starts at 5:30pm. Meetings run until they end, usually around 9pm or so. OCFTM meetings are open to all unless specifically noted. No minors please, unless they are transgender youth. It is suggested to eat dinner beforehand and there are a number of food options very close by (walking distance), with 7-Eleven a few doors down.
A small donation for the facilities is always appreciated of course, please look for the white donation can. These donations go directly to OCTC to help pay for OCTC events (fees, drinks, food), OCTC business expenses, community incentives and OCFTM meeting refreshments. Large donations are greatly encouraged, if possible, and arrangements can be made for tax exempt status. OCTC makes donations to the Center and usually shares large donations with the Center to help support the meeting space and facilities used by many of the OCTC groups. If you value these meetings and community events, please show your support and grow your local transgender community by direct donations to OCTC, or to The Center OC via OCTC or OCFTM. For those who already have been very generous, it truly is appreciated and has made a difference, we thank you!
The meeting space ~ OCFTM meets downstairs in the front room facing Spurgeon (with close bathroom). The meeting room is very wheelchair accessible and is much larger and nicer than our old space. The Cyber center, Wellness Center, and Center’s lobby are upstairs and are not accessible by wheelchair (and are closed on Sundays anyway). Parking in the Center’s parking lot is fine, but is very limited and street parking is close. The neighborhood has bars on windows, so please consider not leaving valuables and other temptations in your car. If you want an escort out, please don’t hesitate to ask. The room may be chilly, so if you get cold easily, bring a jacket.
OCFTM meets at the Center OC location on Spurgeon Street in Santa Ana. 1605 N. Spurgeon St. Santa Ana, CA 92701
The Center is located off Seventeenth Street, just west of the 5 freeway. If traveling south on 5, turn right at bottom of off-ramp, then left onto Seventeenth Street and turn a pretty quick left onto Spurgeon street (traffic light, big sign). Building is on the left side of the street and is a beige 2-story, with a room over the driveway. Look for OCFTM signs.
(Also from OCFTM: Injecting guide on-line — A new guide is available on-line and walks FTMs through the process of injecting T safely and less painfully, while offering tips and helpful information/facts about injecting along the way. Check it out at: http://www.octcca.org/inject.htm)

Y.A.N.A. (a Trans* POC Peer-Support Group)
6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
You Are Not Alone (Y.A.N.A.)
A Trans* POC Peer-Support Group
gender inclusive people of color circle
This is mean to be a space that focuses on health and safety (in particular, anti-gender discrimination and violence) for folks who identify as being a person of color. We hope to grow with each other as a community by using council circles (a Native American/First Nations tool for sharing as a community) and create a gender/POC inclusive safe(r) space. We recognize a need within our community to bring our whole selves into a space as people of color and trans folks. These circles will take place once a month with a rotating location and will be a self-facilitating space.
*Trans is being used to encompass other identities, transgender, transfeminine, transmasculine, MTF, FTM, genderqueer, boi, two-spirit, androgynous, and gender non-conforming.
Please pass along to your POC folks. We are really excited and hopeful that this will be an opportunity to grow as a community regardless of gender identity.
Please don’t forget to RSVP at PocYana@genderjusticela.org if you are able join us at our first meeting – Wed. Feb. 29th from 6:30pm-8:30pm.
See you then!
